My Experience at Bite Beauty Lip Labs
I first heard about Bite Beauty Lip Labs a few months ago from YouTuber Jillian Lansky's of The August Diaries (She is AWESOME.) and instantly became interested (read: obsessed). At that time, she mentioned the original two Lip Lab locations in Toronto and New York. Not exactly convenient for me, so I informed my hubby that we would be vacationing in Canada this summer, (to which he brilliantly played the role or supportive husband, smiling and nodding).
Fast forward to this week. I decided to do more research about Bite Beauty Lip Labs' services and found there is not one, but TWO Lip Labs in the Bay Area. SCORE! (SO worth the CA property taxes!) I think everyone I had ever met received an excited (read: deranged) text from me promising to get back to them with the details, whether they wanted them or not. The next day, I kidnapped my mom and we went to the Lip Lab. And, it was EVERYTHING I hoped it would be. But before I get into that, let me explain how it works. Better yet, let me show you how they explain it on their website. So basically, you have two options.
I chose the Bespoke Lipstick experience because I just couldn't help myself. I worked with an artist who was an actual artist ('cause his college degree says so) and we started combining colors. And by "we" I mean I was the bossy one pointing out colors and he was doing the actual blending. Here are the two colors we came up with.
Yeah, I know. Both neutrals, but I love neutrals. Next came the actual making of the lipsticks. It takes about 8 min and includes measuring, mixing, melting, and freezing, which thankfully I didn't have to do. Once that is done, the artist puts each one in a lipstick holder and, like magic, and I have two new perfect lipsticks. I've been wearing them for a few days and couldn't be happier. I am planning on returning with my two besties later this spring. If you have the money, I absolutely suggest visiting the Bite Beauty Lip Labs - it is a great experience. Below are some tips if you thinking about going.
- Go midweek, or make an appt. It only takes about 10 min to make each lipstick, it can take a bit of time playing with different colors.
- The artist you work with is very important. While each employees have gone thru a training program, they each have very different backgrounds. For instance, the artist I worked with had an art degree and was a genius at mixing colors to create what I wanted even thought I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted. But, he wasn't quite as confident telling me if a shade looked good (or not)on me.
- If you have use and love their multisticks like I do, you can bring it in to have a lipstick made with your choice of finish. For me, their multi-sticks are a bit too drying (but long wearing). So, for me it's worth it to get a lipstick made. But, depending on the color you want to recreate will determine if it is a Custom or Bespoke lipstick.
- They also host private parties, so if you have a special event or celebration coming up, you should consider this option.
